The brief for this project was to create a complete brand identity for a film festival which would capture the very essence of both film and the festival event itself in an abstract and conceptual way. The branding also had to be versatile and equally successful across a range of applications.
My job was to essentially create and build this identity from the ground up, ensuring it clearly communicated the nature of the event to its audience and that clarity was maintained for each varying format.

Black & White Version

This branding for film festival, 'Scannán', represents the bright and vibrant world of motion picture. Drawing on the idea of projection, the logo represents the connection between creator and audience through the conduit of the Big Screen. The bright colour palette underpins a festive visual and conveys a contemporary expression.
Initial concepts and development extrapolated on various aspects of the world of film, along with some ideas exploring the role of both viewer and film maker. The aim was to create an abstract visual that could expand beyond the logo mark and feed into the entire branding process.

Business Card - Front & Back

Creative Suite - the main logo is deconstructed and altered to create further branding elements.

Deconstructing the logo's abstract representation of this event for the front of the t-shirt was done to visually express, rather than annotate, the celebratory nature of the festival.

The logo is displayed on the back in order to give it the same impact as in other formats.

The by-line for Scannán, 'a celebration of film', was a corner stone to the development of its branding. While being mindful of the nature of film festivals, the idea of portraying celebration helped steer this process through colour palette choice, the use of additional branding elements to decisions on how to reflect the concept of the logo itself throughout various applications and apparel.

The result is an aesthetic that is equal measures vibrant celebration as it is an abstract representation of film creators and their viewers, a concept which aimed to resonate beyond the logo mark itself.
