These layout designs were centred around the editorial piece by British journalist, Johnathan Freeland, which addressed the history and foundations of Brexit. The primary focus of the design and layout was to convey the essence of frustration, isolation and the social collateral damage expressed through Freeland's writing. The headline and stand-first were similarly composed with these concepts in mind.
The purpose behind the two layout designs was to communicate the intended message in a different voice. Where one layout focuses more upon the social and community cost and isolation, the other conveys detachment and a frustration at the overall failure to resolve the issue.
